Six on Saturday: it’s still so dry!

Hello everyone. It’s still scorching hot here in Wiltshire but we did have some rain this week which helped the garden although the lawn is brown and crunchy!  I have been hosing this week as my water butts are now dry but the garden is coping well at this point.

Here are my 6 for this Saturday.

I love my pots at the moment.

Nigella. These have popped up in my border. I have a meadow area so these must have self seeded. Aren’t they pretty? So delicate.

The first of my dahlias is flowering. I can’t remember it’s name but I love the dark leaves.

This beautiful rose was a little late to bloom. It’s called Nostalgia and it’s a hybrid tea rose.

I grew these beautiful sweet peas from seed. They are Sarah Raven’s ‘Matucana’.

The pond is getting very low. The marginal plants are not in the water anymore but seem to be loving this weather! There are loads of frogs and newts and yesterday I saw my first dragonfly after all the damselflies.

There are my 6! I’m in a rush today as we have our daughters last speech day ever…..I shall be an emotional wreck later I expect!

    • Thank you! We only dug it in March so it’s flourishing….am slightly worried about the overhanging apple tree groaning in fruit….

    • Hosewater indeed…..I feel so guilty

  • Hope your daughter’s speech day went well! Beautiful rose and I love white Nigella – there is quite a bit in the garden at Charleston farmhouse where I volunteer. Would love to grow some in my own garden.

    • It did, thank you.
Nigella…so easy to grow from seed although these have self seeded. I have blue and white varieties just flowering now.

  • That looks like the old fashioned ‘Swingtime’ fuchsia. It used to be popular when I was a kid. I would not know it if I saw it now. That sweet pea is pretty rad too, especially so late in the year! Ours take so much work to be sown the previous autumn, only to bloom briefly in early spring. My niece still grows the though.

    • Yes, they remind me of my Nan! So satisfying to ‘pop’ though! I love sweet peas but I’m picking them like mad to keep them going.

  • Lovely Six, your garden is looking wonderful despite/because of the hot weather. Love the rose

    • It’s doing ok thanks but I’m worried for when we go on holidays soon…..

  • Beautiful flowers. Our garden just looks parched at the moment because it’s so hot … We didn’t get any rain last week

    • We didn’t either but I’ve got some large water butts luckily.

  • Really lovely photos – the Nigella is gorgeous, I love their little spindly framing foliage, like an Arthur Rackham designed backdrop for every flower! The pond looks golden and dreamy, I can just smell those sweet peas, and everything looks so bright and beautiful! Thanks for sharing!!

    • Oh that’s so kind! Thank you, xx

    • Do you? That’s bad….I hope we don’t get one! My garden will die. X

  • I love nigella, but for some reason always forget to sow them! The dahlia is wonderful, with or without name. Hope the speach day went well 🙂

    • Thankyou Gill; it was wonderful! X

  • My sweet peas are done now. Strictly speaking they were still going but with very short stems. I’ve dug them up to leave room for the squash and beans I have growing up the same canes. Plus ca change.

    • Yes, mine are just about hanging in there but I have another batch about to take off.

    • Thanks for stopping by Marci. X
