It has been a long time since homes have been considered purely practical. Hundreds of years ago, people would make do with whatever protected their family from the elements. The added touches, the ones that weren’t practical but made life more luxurious and enjoyable, came later. Yet whereas many people now take the time to make sure their home is aesthetically pleasing, that’s about as far as it goes. Life gets in the way and many families are too busy to worry about their home. However, to make your house really stand out from the crowd, you need to give it the ‘wow factor.’ We know that sounds easier said than done, so I’ve put together some useful tips on how to achieve this.
Unless you’re a millionaire, your home won’t be able to make mouths drop all the way through. Instead, it’s all about focusing on the rooms where your additions will have the most impact, which may include your living room, kitchen, bathroom, and master bedroom. In each of these rooms, it’s easy to include something that adds a touch of indulgence, and especially in the bedroom. Adding a luxurious mirror or fabulous new bedding can add the ‘wow’ factor that you are looking for.
Anyone can add a piece of artwork to their home. It’s a simple way to add some luxury to a property. But what if a home’s ‘wow factor’ wasn’t based on what had been added to it, but the house itself? Things like bespoke staircases, chandelier lighting, plenty of natural light, and exposed wood floorings aren’t a part of the home; they are the house! If you make these additions, your property will have luxury running through its veins. I love the symmetry of the Old House and think it is such a good looking home. My home is a piece of Georgian beauty!
In the Garden
There aren’t enough people making the most of their outdoor spaces. Some people treat it as something that’s a borderline inconvenience, a place where they have to cut the grass every so often. In reality, it should be considered as an additional room. Once you look at it with this perspective, you’ll see just how much potential it has. So how do you give it the ‘wow factor’? There are a few ways. One is to create a social space, that includes a BBQ and extra comfortable seating. Alternatively, you could go down the ‘making it beautiful’ route, which means getting your hands dirty and engaging in a spot of landscaping and planting. Finally, you could consider adding a fire pit and an outdoor cinema. Both these options don’t have to be expensive but could add a unique element to your home, adding ‘The Wow Factor’ that you are looking for.
