My daughter is almost 19 and is at University. We haven’t decorated her room since we moved to the Old House in 2016. Over the Christmas period, we painted this room and I thought I would share the changes with you.
How it used to look
This was how my daughter’s room looked when we moved in. She had a wardrobe and chest of drawers in the spaces around the fireplace and filled her room with photos (I have put white on these to protect her identity). We had damp on the walls and it was generally in a poor state. She had a new double bed but that was about it.
All the bedrooms had fitted wardrobes built by a local handyman in November 2018. The Old House lacked storage so this was a sensible choice for the bedrooms. I had them made floor to ceiling to add the maximum amount of storage possible. They were then painted in Dulux Timeless.
Choosing paint colours
My daughter wanted something blue, quite neutral and not too dark so we choose Farrow and Ball Palma Grey. This is a lovely soft blue which has a hint of warmth to it. I have used this colour in an previous house and we all love it so it seemed the perfect choice. I do love blue in a bedroom as we also have a similar colour in our Master Bedroom
The painted mirror
I wanted to add a secondary colour to this room but was aware that my daughter may not like the coral colour I loved! I decided to paint an old, pine mirror in coral to see what it would look like. It’s not quite the same shade as the other pinks in the room but I don’t think that matters. The good thing about adding bolder colours with your accessories is that if you grow tired of them, you can always change them!
Bedding, Throw and Cushions
Other bits and bobs
I do have a thing for ornate mirrors and think this one looks beautiful here but I am worried that my daughter will not like it as much. Adding house plants and candles has made this room more cosy. I love this Bedroom now! My daughter hasn’t actually seen it completely finished so I hope she loves it too! She is home in a weeks time for a reading week so I’ll let you know……
