Here we are and it’s already July. I say it every month but time does really fly by! During this month, we have seen some real change in the Old House Renovations and I feel all the pain and waiting has been worth it!
The Bath Stone
The Stone masons returned and polished the grout from the stone work. This have left it looking like marble! It looks absolutely incredible and you can hardly see the joins. This was one of the specifications from the listed planning department; the back stone work had to look like the front which was laid when the house was built in 1820. I’m very pleased with it.
Inside the kitchen
The bay window that looks out from the lounge into the garden (and now extension) had to be boarded up. We couldn’t configure the kitchen with it in place. As a listed house, it has to stay (rightly so) so we boarded it up instead. It will boarded up in the lounge too.
Reinstating the original doorway
We always knew that we wanted to put the doorway in its original position. The old doorway was sealed up and the original one was opened up. It felt right straight away!
And then the rain came…..so the plasterer set to work!
Our Lovely builders had planned to get the patio done before the glazers arrived but we had such terribly weather! It rained solidly for 10 days so they got on inside the building instead. The house was wrapped in a rather lovely green cover so that all the oak could be cleaned. This got rid of any water marks on the green oak.
The Windows and Doors are here!
After a delay due to the weather, the glazers arrived and got to work putting in all the windows and doors. This was a huge job that will take two weeks (they have been here for one week to date). The building has been transformed and is suddenly a proper room!
The Utility Room
The Utility Room and the ‘room without a definite purpose’ have also been plastered.
Additional drains have been added underneath the patio and retaining walls have been built. The Bath Stone for the garden wall have been cut to size and the patio is being laid at the moment. It’s almost finished but I didn’t want to wait with my update post for another week.
As you can see, the patio is coming along now. We chose this lovely grey as it matches the roof tiles. The glazers will be in on Monday to finish the windows. The patio will hopefully be finished soon too. We also have the floor tiles going down in the kitchen next week. The only thing I haven’t done is finalise the kitchen! I keep changing my mind about colours or design. I have found the whole process quite stressful to be honest as I don’t want to get it wrong! I think I’m there with my choices and I hope the design will be finalised next week.
June has been productive to say the least and it’s all coming together now. I hope you have enjoying reading about the updates. I’ll leave you will a photograph taken in 2017 so that you can see the difference 18 months makes!
